Five key sponsors are meeting the substantial cost of staging the two-day ServiceNation Summit, including Thursday evening's Presidential Forum.
The Carnegie Corporation of New York, alongside Time magazine, retailer Target, social networking website Facebook and over-50's group AARP, have all contributed more than $500,000 each to put on the event.
The co-sponsors - affordable house builder The Home Depot Foundation and interest group The Peter G Peterson Foundation - have also donated smaller sums of money to the organizers.
Other sponsors of the gathering include the business publication The NonProfit Times, United Nations Foundations and Bank of America. Columbia University is not being paid for hosting the forum.
